JazzDay History, and how MUAC was created

Jazzday was created by then director-general of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, and the “Goodwill ambassador for intercultural dialogue”, Herbie Hancock in April 2011. April 30th is now considered the International Day of Jazz, not only for UNESCO but on every level of the United Nations.

The JazzDay team led by Mr Hancock has held an “All Star Concert” Live-streamed, and many hundreds of local JazzDay events around this date in over 190 countries. They even rose to the challenge of virtual events when the COVID-19 crisis hit.

In addition, there are increasingly more events with pedagogical elements such as workshops, which stay on the official site of Jazzday.com. This “international jazzday” was created to promote humanistic values, as well as its “power” to unify each and every one of us.

Universal Rainbow Music (Musique Universelle Arc-en-Ciel, MUAC) was actually built thanks to JazzDay. Indeed, it organized its first official JazzDay in April 2018. These events are particularly important to the association because Jazz has this duality: representing the musical aspect, and supporting values we share. (see: Our History). That is why since 2018 has never stopped organizing Jazzday events, which are always full of emotion and always a place to share.
